Overview
2014 the City Council formed a Redevelopment Authority to promote the Historic Downtown Residential and Commercial Areas of Leeds.
- The Redevelopment Authority's primary responsibilities include:
- Downtown District Property Analysis
- Downtown Business and Real Estate Development
- Land and Building Acquisition
- Project Planning
- Project Management
- Downtown Planning and Coordination
- Grant Writing and Administration
- Downtown Promotion and Marketing
The Leeds Redevelopment Authority works closely with the City of Leeds, the Historic Preservation Commission, and the Chamber of Commerce to stimulate the downtown district's economy, offer development incentives, and preserve the district's historic integrity.
The Leeds Redevelopment Authority administers the program to give property and business owners financial assistance for façade improvements. In March 2015, the Authority approved a Façade Incentive Grant Program that will reimburse property and business owners a maximum of $3,000 per building for enhancements such as new exterior paint, awning replacement or additions, door, and window improvements, sign replacement or improvements, renovations that complement a building's historic characteristics, and uncovering of architectural features.
The Redevelopment Authority District area can be found here.
Facade grant applications are accepted annually and granted as funds are available.
If you need additional information, please email the Redevelopment Authority.
Historical Preservation Commission
Members of the Leeds Redevelopment Authority are also members of the Historical Preservation Commission, which meets immediately following the RDA meeting, when applicable.
