Building Safety
The City of Leeds Fire Department - Building Safety Division is responsible for the permitting and inspection of construction (including new construction, additions, alterations, repairs, and remodeling) throughout the City's building permitting jurisdiction as required by the International Building Codes.
Building Codes
The International Code Council is the leading global source of model codes and standards and building safety solutions that include product evaluation, accreditation, technology, training, and certification. The Code Council's codes, standards, and solutions are used to ensure safe, affordable, and sustainable communities and buildings worldwide.
The Leeds City Council has adopted and enforced the International Code Series
International Building Code, 2015
International Residential Code, 2015
International Mechanical Code, 2015
International Plumbing Code, 2015
International Fuel Gas Code, 2015

Note

Self Certification Program & One Permit
The City of Leeds announces the new Self-Certification and One Permit programs for Home Builders and Contractors. We are very excited about these new processes for our citizens and contractors in our city. The City of Leeds is the first city in Alabama to offer the self-certification process for permitting. The One Permit allows the licensed Home Builder or General Contractor to apply for and be issued One Permit for a project. Implementing these new permits will make the permitting process easier for the citizens and contractors, and either process is officially available.
