Leeds, Al. March 13th - 14th Reminder Smoke Detector Maintenance back Smoke detectors are extremely important in the early warning of a fire. There needs to be a smoke detector on every floor and sleeping area. Smoke detectors can range in prices and function and are sold at most retail stores. Some helpful maintenance tips:  Change the batteries twice a year  Test the detector once a month  Be sure to check for an expiration date on the smoke detector Leeds Fire Prevention would like to aid those that are elderly or physically disabled and unable to climb on a ladder to change batteries, check the detector or install new smoke detectors. We are unfortunately unable to purchase the batteries for the smoke detectors at this time due to the cost. Some good news is we are trying to work and get the smoke detector program started up and provide smoke detectors for those that need them. We will keep you updated on our progress with the smoke detectors.
