We are dedicated to our mission to foster a safe community by responding to crime, addressing community concerns related to safety, and maintaining an effective presence throughout the City of Leeds. The Leeds Police Department achieves its mission by building relationships with the community and other stakeholders. Policing a community is at times difficult, extremely challenging, and continually changes to meet growing public expectations and emerging crime trends. About the Chief
Chief Byron Jackson was appointed Chief of Police of the Leeds Police Department in June of 2011. Before being appointed Chief, Chief Jackson served 32 years with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office commanding the Patrol Division, Special Operations (SWAT team, Bomb Squad, K9's). Chief Jackson has held certifications as explosive technician, polygraph examiner firearms instructor. Chief Jackson retired as a Colonel from the United States Army Reserve with occupational specialties in Military Police and Military Intelligence. Chief Jackson holds a B/S degree in Criminal Justice from Troy State University and M/S degree in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College. Chief Jackson has been married to Judy Jeffcoat Jackson for 36+ years and has 2 children, David Jackson a Captain in the US Army and Stephaine Ali a Social Worker.
